Aichi Scholarship Program 2024 is an opportunity offered by the Aichi Prefectural Government to Indian students who want to pursue their postgraduate studies in Japan. The primary objective of this scholarship is to support the students pursuing fields relevant to Aichi's manufacturing industry. 5 scholarships are available, each offering a monthly stipend of ¥150,000 (approximately ₹80,767.72) to cover living expenses.

    Eligibility

    To be eligible, an applicant must:-

    • be under 35 years old as of 1st April 2024 , i.e. born on or after 2nd April 1988
    • be citizen of and currently reside in India or one of the United Nations member states excluding Japan and North Korea,Vatican City, Kosovo, Cook Islands, and Niue
    • hold a bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification
    • select a field of study relevant to Aichi's manufacturing industry
    • demonstrate proficiency in Japanese or a clear plan to achieve proficiency for study and potential employment in Aichi
    • be in good physical and mental health to participate fully in the program

     

    Note:-

    • Spouses of individuals currently receiving scholarships from the Aichi Prefectural Government are ineligible to apply.
    • Applicants must intend to seek employment at a company with headquarters or a branch office located in Aichi regardless of the work placement location within Japan.
    • Applicants cannot be receiving scholarships or grants concurrently from other organizations, including those from the Japanese government or their home country.
    Benefits

    Selected candidates will receive the following benefits:-

    • A living allowance of ¥1,50,000 per month which will be paid from the month of arrival in Japan
    • Travel expenses will cover economy class airfare to Japan approved by the Governor within the program budget. This will include travel from the nearest international airport to the students' Chubu Centrair International Airport residence. In exceptional circumstances where these airports cannot be used, the Governor may approve necessary travel expenses.
    • School expenses such as entrance fees, exam fees, tuition fees for both research and graduate study

     

    Note:-

    • Airfare for return flights from Japan to the home country will not be provided.
    • The monthly living allowance of ¥1,50,000 may be reduced in the following situations:
      • Leaving Japan for more than 30 days.
      • Taking a leave of absence from school.
    • The allowance may also be reduced to ¥100,000 per month starting in April 2026 if the recipient has not passed the N4 or a higher level of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) by the end of March 2026 which is organised by The Japan Foundation and Japan Educational Exchanges and Services.
    • If the recipient passes the N4 or a higher JLPT level and submits the certificate, the allowance will be reinstated to ¥150,000 per month starting the following month. In exceptional circumstances where taking the JLPT is impossible, alternative proficiency assessments will be considered.
    Documents
    • Application Form (Form 1, completed and signed)
    • Pledge (Form 2, completed and signed)
    • Certificate of Health issued within the past six months (Form 3)
    • Proof of graduation such as a copy of certificate of graduation, diploma/degree or a certificate of student status and proof of expected graduation (if the applicant is in college)
    • Academic record issued by the university from which the applicant graduated (Note:- In the absence of a GPA description within the transcript, the recommending organization will calculate and attach a GPA for reference purposes.)
    • Certified copy of passport (Note:- If the applicant does not have a passport at the time of application, a certified copy of their birth certificate or citizenship certificate will be sufficient.)
    • A recommendation letter written by the dean/department chair or a person of higher position of the applicant's university department recommending the applicant for the scholarship (no designated form required).
    • Three photographs (size: 4cm x 3cm)

     

    Note:-

    • Photographs must be taken within the last six months and show the applicant facing forward with their upper torso and face clearly visible, and without a hat.
    • The applicant’s name and nationality must be written on the back of each photograph. One of these photopraphs should be attached to the application in the space provided.
    • All the documents should be written in Japanese or English, and preferably typed.
    • Documents cannot be returned once submitted.
    • Incomplete documents and applications submitted after the deadline will not be accepted.
    • Applicants are required to attach the contact information of the person in charge of their university to the recommendation letter.

     

    Documents required to be submitted by the recommending institution:

    • Recommendation letter to the governor by the university president
    • Recommendation letter to the governor by the applicant’s professor in charge of the desired field of study
    • Tuition reductions should be documented on the Tuition Exemption Details Form.
    • Applicant’s record of Japanese language proficiency

    Note:-

    • Applicants with the following documentation will be considered proficient:
      • Certified N2 or higher level on the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test.
      • Total score of 200 points or more on the Japanese as a Foreign Language section of the Japan Student Services Organisation's Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students.
    • Applicants who cannot provide documentation will be interviewed to assess their proficiency. The interview findings will be recorded for evaluation.
    • If the recommending organisation offers a program to help applicants reach the required proficiency level. Students will be required to submit the program curriculum for reference.
    How can you apply?

    Eligible candidates can apply for the scholarship by following the steps mentioned below:-
    Step 1: Click on the 'Apply Now' button.
    Step 2: Click the 'Register' button and fill in the required registration details. (Note:- If already registered log in using Gmail/Mobile number/Email ID.)
    Step 3: Read the details carefully. Applicants must submit their applications and all required documents directly to graduate schools located in Aichi.
    Step 4: The recommended organisation will send the applications through email at: ‘kokusai@pref.aichi.lg.jp’. (Note:- All application materials, excluding photographs, must be submitted electronically via email (maximum attachment size: 7MB). Photographs should be submitted separately by mail.)

Selection Criteria

The Aichi Scholarship Program Selection Committee recommends candidates, from which the Governor selects the scholarship recipients.  

The recommending universities will be notified of the selection results by the end of July 2024.

  • Students are required to participate in internship programs during the first year of the master's course.
  • After completing the scholarship program, scholars are expected to pursue employment with a company that has headquarters or branch offices located in Aichi, regardless of the job location within Japan or elsewhere
  • Scholarship recipients are required to respond to inquiries from the Aichi Prefectural Government regarding their employment status after completing the program.
  • Applicants must be prepared to travel to Japan by a date determined by the Governor, ideally by October 2024. However, if unforeseen circumstances beyond your control, such as entry restrictions, delay your arrival, you must still arrive in Japan by the end of March 2025 to take the graduate school entrance exam beginning in April.
  • Applicants who take the online admission exam outside of Japan must arrive in Japan by the end of March 2025.
  • All applicants must be admitted as research students at a university or graduate school in Aichi between October 2024 and March 2025.
  • Scholars are required to enrol in the national health insurance system after arriving in Japan.
  • Applicants are encouraged to thoroughly research the scholarship program, including its various stages and considerations. This will ensure they are well informed and confident in their decision to pursue the scholarship and subsequent employment opportunities in the Aichi industries.
  • Scholarship recipients are required to submit regular progress reports on their studies, research activities, job search efforts, and academic performance at designated times set by the Governor. Additionally, participation in programs organized by the Aichi Prefectural Government is mandatory.
  • Submission of applications containing false information may result in disqualification from the scholarship program.

 

Termination of the Scholarship:

  • The scholarship award is subject to termination in the event of a violation of the scholarship pledge by the recipient.
  • The scholarship will be terminated if the recipient is unable to complete their graduate program requirements.
  • If a candidate fails to pass the master's entrance exam by the March 2025 deadline, the scholarship will be terminated at the end of the month following the announcement of the results.
  • Scholarship recipients who fail to secure employment with a company headquartered or having a branch office in Aichi, will have their scholarship terminated at the end of February 2027.
