About The Program

The University of Houston invites applications for Tier One Scholarship 2018 from incoming freshman students who are taking admission in the University of Houston. The key objective of the program is to recruit and engage high-calibre students in pursuing academic excellence without any kind of financial limitation.

To be eligible for the scholarship, an applicant must -

  • Be an incoming freshman taking admission to a degree program at the University of Houston. 
  • Have demonstrated an outstanding academic achievement, community engagement and leadership quality. 
  • Have obtained a total 1400 SAT (ERW and Math) score or 30 ACT composite score (preferable).
  • Be ranked among the top 10% of his/her high school graduating class (preferable). 

Note: Graduate students, transfer students, and students continuing their studies at the University of Houston are not eligible to apply for the scholarship. 

 

How can you apply?

Eligible candidates can apply for the scholarship through following steps -
Step 1: Apply for a degree program at the University of Houston. 
Step 2: Click here to apply for the scholarship. 
Step 3: Complete all seven steps of the application form. 
Step 4: Finally submit the application form. 
Step 5: Also ask a recommender to send a letter of recommendation to tieronescholar@uh.edu. 

 

Terms and Conditions

Award Details

The students awarded with Tier One Scholarship will receive -

  • All mandatory and tuition fees for 4 years of undergraduate studies. (Note: The students pursuing architecture program will receive benefits for 5 years.)
  • On-campus housing and meal for two years. 
  • A stipend in support of abroad studies and undergraduate research. 
  • Membership of the Honors college along with enhanced academic advising.  
  • Support in competing for both international and national scholarships. 
  • Opportunities to communicate and stay connected with the community of Tier One Scholars. 
  • Access to the vast and influential network of staff and faculty. 
  • Preferred registration during all types of enrollment periods. 

Selection procedure

Once the applications have been received, a committee comprising University staff and faculty will evaluate the applications and shortlist top scoring applicants for the on-campus interview. The candidates shortlisted for interview will get a notification by 8 December 2017. The date for on-campus interview is 13 January 2018.
