About The Program

Swiss Confederation along with Federal Commission for Scholarships for Foreign Students (FCS) invites applications for Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship 2018, from international young researchers and students who have completed master's degree program. The main objective of the scheme is to promote research cooperation and international exchange between Switzerland and other countries.

For Postdoctoral Scholarships

To be eligible for the scholarship, an applicant must -

  • Have obtained a PhD degree between 31 December 2014 and 1 September 2018 recognised by the Swiss University. (Note: The applicants have to submit their degree to FCS as a proof before the start of the scholarship.)
  • Have a devoted research proposal that also includes the timeline. 
  • Provide a letter issued by a professor of any Swiss hosting institution stating his/her will to supervise and support the postdoctoral research. 
  • Possess good command over required language skills for postdoctoral research. 
  • Be willing to relocate to Switzerland during the grant period. 

For PhD/Research Scholarship 

To be eligible for the scholarship, an applicant must -

  • Possess a master's degree or equivalent, recognised by the Swiss University, before 1 September 2018. (Note: The applicants have to submit their degree to FCS before the scholarship starts.) 
  • Be born after 31 December 1982. 
  • Have a research proposal that includes a timeframe. 
  • Provide a letter issued by an academic professor (including his/her short CV) of host institutions confirming their will to supervise and support PhD thesis.
  • Have good command over required language skills for PhD research. 
  • Be willing to relocate to Switzerland during the grant period. 
How can you apply?

Eligible candidates can apply for the scholarship through the following steps -
Step 1: Obtain the application package from the Swiss Embassy in India through email. 
Step 2: Fill in the form (typed) and take its print out. 
Step 3: Fix a recent photograph on your form and sign it. 
Step 4: Attach necessary documents. 
Step 5: Submit 1 original and 2 copies of the application documents to Swiss Embassy in India at the mentioned address -

Documents Required

  • Complete CV along with the list of all academic publications. 
  • A motivation letter of maximum 2 pages. 
  • Completed and signed research proposal of maximum 5 pages. 
  • Copy of the letter issued by an academic professor of the host institution stating his/her will to supervise and support the thesis. 
  • Short CV of the academic mentor (for research fellowship).
  • Two letters of recommendation (confidential) issued by two different professors in applicant's field. 
  • Photocopies of previously attended education's grade sheets and certificates sequenced with the most recent ones. (Note: If certificates are not available in English, German, Italian or French, copies are also acceptable with certified and attested translations.)
  • Duly signed medical certificate. 
  • Two copies of the passport. 

Note: Please maintain the same sequence of the documents as mentioned. Also, please do not put documents in binders or plastic folders. 

Award Details 

For Postdoctoral Scholarship

  • A monthly scholarship amount of CHF 3500. 
  • Mandatory Swiss health insurance. 
  • Special housing allowance of CHF 300 paid once. 
  • Half fare public transportation card for one year. 
  • Support services, dinners, trips and sightseeing tours. 
  • Flight allowance for returning to the origin country at the end of the scholarship. 

For PhD/Research Scholarship

  • A monthly scholarship amount of CHF 1920. 
  • Mandatory Swiss health insurance. 
  • Special housing allowance of CHF 300 paid once. 
  • Half-fare public transportation card for one year. 
  • Support services, dinners, trips and sightseeing tours. 
  • Flight allowance for returning to the origin country at the end of the scholarship.
