About The Program

Sir Ratan Tata Post-doctoral Fellowship invites application for the candidates who have been awarded their PhD and should be early career researchers working in social science with a focus on South Asia, for a period of 8 months during each academic year, based at the LSE India observatory. This fellowship was established in 1997 at the London School of Economics & Political Science (LSE) in partnership with the Sir Ratan Tata Trust and the fellowship covers £1500 a month.

  • Candidates should have been awarded their PhD.
  • This fellowship is not intended for candidates registered for a degree or diploma, nor is it intended for senior academics.
  • Candidates should be early career researchers working in social science with a focus on South Asia.
  • Candidates should be employed with established institutions in the SAARC region which include Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
How can you apply?

The application can be done by post or by email with the following steps:
Step 1:
The candidates should use A4-sized plain paper.
Step 2: Attach a cover letter of no more than 1 page, curriculum vitae of no more than 3 pages.
Step 3: Also attach an outline of proposed research of no more than 3 pages.
Step 4: Give the names and addresses of 2 referees, familiar with their work, to be contacted by the Committee. Do not staple your application.
Step 5: Now email it as a Word or PDF document or send it to the given address:
