About The Program

Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics Fellowships 2017 invites Students to join the PhD programme of Physics and Biophysical Sciences starting from 2017-18. Postgraduates and students appearing in the final exam for their post graduation degrees can apply for the Scholarship. Selected students will get fellowships up to the amount of INR 28,000, accommodation and contingency. Candidates will be shortlisted based on previous academic records followed by the performance in a nation-wide screening test.

PhD:

  • Physics: M.Sc. in Physics
  • Biophysical Sciences: M.Sc. in Physics/Chemistry (with Life Science at 10+2) or M..Sc. in Life Sciences (with Chemistry and Mathematics at 10+2)

Post graduation:
Students appearing in the final exam for their Masters’ degrees during the current academic session can also apply. However, their admission will be made provisional till they successfully pass their Masters’ degrees in compliance with the cut-off requirement for SINP screening procedure (will be announced at a later date)

Deadlines:

  • For Physics-April 15, 2017.
  • For Biophysical Sciences-May 7, 2017.

Selection procedure:

  • A first screening will be done based on previous academic records of the students. A further shortlist of students will be prepared based on the performance in nation-wide screening test as mentioned below:

For Physics (Experimental and Theoretical)-

  1. Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST).
  2. GATE in Physics.
  3. CSIR/UGC NET for JRF in Physics.

For Biophysical Sciences-

  1. Joint Graduate Entrance Examination for Biology and Interdisciplinary Life Sciences (JGEEBILS) conducted by NCBS-TIFR.
  2. CSIR/UGC/DBT/ICMR NET for JRF.
  3. GATE in Life Sciences, Biotechnology, Physics and Chemistry.
  • The short-listed students will be called for the next level of selection procedure including an interview process to be held at SINP (during May-June 2017).
  • The short-listed students will be informed by email and also through the announcement on our web page.

Interview Dates:

  • For Physics (Experimental & Theory)-May 22-25, 2017.
  • For Biophysical Sciences-June 12-16, 2017.

Final Selection:

  • The final selection of students will be done on the basis of their performances in all the above stages of screening and selection. 
  • The selected students will be informed by email and also through the announcement on the web page.
