About The Program

Education Department, Chandigarh Administration has decided to give Post Matric Scholarships to students belonging to SC and OBC community who are the permanent resident of UT, Chandigarh for studies in India under the Government of India Scheme.The scholarship will be open to Indian nationals belonging to SCs and OBCs as notified by the Central Government/State Government/ UT Administration.

In order to apply, an applicant must -

  • Belong to SC or OBC community.
  • A permanent resident of UT, Chandigarh.
  • Be pursuing post matriculation or post secondary courses.
  • Students pursuing post graduate courses in medicine will be eligible if they are not allowed to practice during the period of their course.
  • Students who pursue their studies through correspondence courses are also eligible. The term correspondence includes distant and continues education.
  • Students whose income combined with the income of their parents/guardians does not exceed Rs.1,00,000/- per annum shall be eligible for a post-matric scholarship to the extent of reimbursement of all compulsorily payable non-refundable fees (in case of OBC candidate).
  • Students whose income combined with the income of their parents/guardians does not exceed Rs.2,50,000/- per annum shall be eligible for a post-matric scholarship to the extent of reimbursement of all compulsorily payable non-refundable fees.(in case of SC candidate).

Note-Students studying in Class of the Higher Secondary School courses or the XII class of the multi purpose High School not be eligible for it being a continuous school course. However, in cases, where tenth class examination of such courses is treated as equivalent to Matriculation and students who after passing tenth class join other courses, such students will be treated as post- matric students and will be eligible for the award of scholarship.

How can you apply?

Following are the steps to apply for SC students-

Step 1- Click here to get the application form.
Step 2- Fill in all the details after reading the Regulations of the Scheme.
Step 3- Submit the application duly completed to the authority prescribed for this purpose by the Government of the State/Union Territory to which the applicant actually belongs/permanently settled, before the last date prescribed by that authority for receipt of these applications.

Step 3- Submit the application duly completed to the authority prescribed for this purpose by the Government of the State/Union Territory to which an applicant actually belongs/permanently settled, before the last date prescribed by that authority for receipt of these applications.

Terms and Conditions

Documents required -

  • One copy of the application for scholarship in the prescribed form (separate application forms have been prescribed for ‘fresh’ and ‘renewal’ scholarship by concerned states/UTs).
  • One copy of the passport size photograph with signatures of the student thereon (for fresh scholarship).
  • One attested copy of certificates, diploma, degree etc. in respect of all examinations passed.
  • A certificate (in original) of caste duly signed by an authorized Revenue Officer, not below the rank of Tehsildar.
  • An income declaration by the self-employed parents/guardians, stating definite income from all sources by way of an affidavit on non-judicial stamp paper, Employed parents/guardians are required to obtain income certificate from their employer and for any additional income from other sources, they would furnish declaration by way of an affidavit on non-judicial stamp paper.
  • A receipt in acknowledgment of the scholarship in the previous year on the form attached to the application only duly counter-signed by the Head of the Institution concerned, if the application was in receipt of a scholarship under this scheme in the preceding year.

Award details

For SC students

  • Maintenance allowance of up to INR 550 per month to day scholars and INR 1200 per month to hostellers.
  • Other one time allowances of up to INR 1600.

  • Maintenance allowance of up to INR 350 per month to day scholars and INR 750 per month to hostellers. 
  • Reader charges of up to INR 175 per month for 10 months.
  • Study Tour Charges/ Thesis Typing & Printing Charges of up to INR 1000 per annum. 
  • Annual Book Allowance of INR 900 per annum for students offering correspondence course including distance and continuing education.
