About The Program
The National Entrance Screening Test (NEST) 2017 is for admission to the 5-year integrated M.Sc programme in basic sciences- Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics at National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER), Bhubaneswar, an off-campus centre of HBNI and University of Mumbai-Department of Atomic Energy Centre for Excellence in Basic Science (UM-DAE CEBS), Mumbai. NEST 2017 will be conducted in around 60 towns and cities all over India on Saturday, 27th May 2017.
It offers a limited number of merit-based INSPIRE (by the Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India) scholarships of Rs. 5,000 per month and an additional Rs. 20,000 per year for carrying out summer projects. The total numbers of scholarships are 60 for NISER and 25 for CEBS. Besides, top performers at NISER and CEBS, securing overall grades above certain threshold at the end of the programme, are eligible to appear directly for the interview for admission to Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) training school.

The student must:
- passed class 12 board examination or equivalent (science stream only) in the year 2015, 2016 or will appear in 2017 board examination from any recognized Board.
- secures at least 60% in aggregate in class 12 board examination. For SC/ST/PD students, the aggregate is relaxed by 5%.
- born on or after August 01, 1997. For SC/ST/PD students, the limit is relaxed by 5 years.
How can you apply?
The applications can be done online only with the following steps:
Step 1: Go to the link.
Step 2: If you are first time user, then you have to fill New Registration (left part of the page). Full name, Valid email id, password.
Step 3: Link will be generated and emailed to you, click on that link to verify.
Step 4: If you are already registered with NEST, go to right side of that page, write down your email id and password.
Step 5: Login again to fill the 4-step form.

FAQ's
Q. I passed my XIIth board exam before 2015 but my date of birth is within eligible range. Am I eligible for admission?
A. YOU ARE NOT, UNFORTUNATELY. You need to satisfy all four criteria of eligibility. Please refer to the ‘Eligibility’ tab at https://www.nestexam.in/.
Q. I did not have one subject among Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology in my XIIth board exam. Am I eligible?
A. YES, YOU ARE ELIGIBLE. The eligibility criterion is that a candidate should be from science stream with any combination of science subjects. However, if selected you will have to study all 4 subjects (B,C,M,P) in the first year only.
Q. I have a gap of more than two years between my Xth and XIIth board exams? Am I eligible?
A. YES, YOU ARE ELIGIBLE. Only XIIth passing year should be in 2015/ 2016/ 2017.
Q. Is it absolutely necessary to register with an email id for online application?
A. YES. An email containing a link to confirm your email-ID will be sent to the registered email id. You should therefore use your personal email-id.
Q. I have forgotten my password that I had given during registration. What should I do?
A. YOU CAN RETRIVE YOUR PASSWORD. Use the 'Oops! I forgot my password' link provided on the login page. This password can be retrieved maximum twice.
Q. I am waiting for my password after Registration. When/How shall I receive?
A.PASSWORDS ARE NOT SENT OVER EMAIL. Use the password that YOU had provided during registration. Login in window .2. (sign-in) after clicking the confirmation link in your email.
FAQ-NEST 2017
Q. I am not ready with my scanned photograph and signature. What should I do?
A. NOT A PROBLEM. You may upload the photo and the signature at the very last stage. However, they are mandatory for completion of the application process.
Q. How should I convert my CGPA to percentage?
A. PLEASE FOLLOW YOUR BOARD’S GUIDELINE. Typically it is done by multiplying 9.5 to the overall CGPA.
Q. After upload, images look too small to be identified. Is it accepted?
A. NO. Please follow the instruction to crop the pictures and re-upload by clicking the ‘Select Photo’ or ‘Select Signature’ button.
Q. Wrong pictures uploaded. What to do?
A. CHANGE THE PHOTO. Click ‘Select Photo’ again and choose correct file. Wrong picture should be replaced automatically after few seconds.
Q. I can’t choose my photo as the file browser window does not appear when I click ‘Select Photo’. How to complete the upload process?
A. CHANGE THE BROWSER. Please try with some advanced browsers like Chrome/Firefox. Your current browser is blocking this feature.
Q. Can I pay using DD or cash?
A. NO. The only option for payment is online. You must choose any one of the two available payment gateways. Either gateway allows payment using Net-Banking/Debit card/Credit card of multiple banks.
Q. Whenever I click “Save and Continue” nothing seems to happen. What should I do?
A. CHROME ISSUE. In Google Chrome: You have disabled the alert box by putting a check in “Prevent this page from creating additional dialogs”. Please close the browser, reopen and login in NEST. Alert boxes will be enabled again.
Q. Do I need to send the hard copies of the application summary to NEST office?
A. NO. The entire application process is paperless. However, if you wish to contact the NEST office for any other reason, use this address:
