In matters relating to enrolment, steps have been taken to ensure that students from all parts of the country are able to join the University so that it becomes a national University in the true sense of the word.

The admission policy of the University is governed by the following principles :

  1. to ensure admission of students with academic competence and potentialities of high quality so that its alumni may be able to play their role in the process of national construction and social change in a meaningful manner;
  2. to ensure that adequate number of students from the under-privileged and socially handicapped sections of our society are admitted to the University; andto maintain all-India character of the University by having on its rolls a fair representation of students from different regions of the country especially the backward areas.

Upto 22.5 per cent (15% for SC and 7.5% for ST) of seats are reserved for SC/ST candidates respectively. 3% seats are reserved for Physically Challenged (Handicapped). The SC/ST and Physically Challenged (Handicapped) candidates who have passed the qualifying examination irrespective of their percentage of marks are eligible to appear in the Entrance Examination. 27% seats are reserved for OBC candidates (non creamy layer).

    Eligibility

    How can you apply?

    Application can be done online or by post.

    1. Log-on to JNU website (www.jnu.ac.in / admissions.jnu.ac.in).

    2. Click on to New Registration & Candidate Login link.

    3. Before you proceed to register yourself for entrance examination you must ensure that you have read and understood the eligibility criteria as given in the prospectus for each discipline / programme of study for which you intend to take the entrance examination .

    4. You should fill your correct basic and academic details like Name, DOB, Address, Contact No., Email-id and Discipline / programme of study .

    5. Choose your password 8 characters. Please remember your password and don’t share with others.

    6. Before final submission of online Application form, read the declaration carefully and give your consent on it. You are required to upload a recently taken scanned photograph and signature in JPG format (preferable width 150px and height 200px) and size less than 20-50 KB. Signature size should be less than 10-20 KB(preferable width 140px and height 60px). The maximum file size for Photo and Signature is 50 KB, failing which you will not be able to complete your application. So you must check your information details carefully before final submission of your application form.

    7. Keep mobile Phone handy while filling the form and the user credentials are sent in the given email id for further login.

    8. No written acknowledgement will be issued for the receipt of the application. However, the candidate can verify
      application status on JNU website after a fortnight of submission. If you see any discrepancy, call us on Phone No. 8010-855-855.

    9. After successful filling of On-line Application Form, a Confirmation Page will be generated for each and every candidate bearing the entire information as filled in by the candidate by them along with a Unique Application Number which the candidate can use in future correspondence. Registration number will be allotted at the time of Admit card generation.
      The candidates are required to take a printout of confirmation page and retain the same for their record but need not send the same to JNU.

    10. Application fee payment can be made :

      • Any bank Debit/Credit card

      • Through challan to be deposited in any SBI branch

  11. Last date for payment of fees. 1st August, 2016 
    (Such of the selected candidates who are not in a position to join the programme by stipulated date i.e. 1st August, 2016 owing to non-declaration of their result but submit their acceptance alongwith the Bank Draft of the required amount by 1st August, 2016 will be permitted to complete their registration requirements on or before 16th August, 2016.)

  12. Release of Second List, if any, wherever required as per the admission policy of the University (Candidates are advised to check the list on the website of the University) By 4th August, 2016 (Tentative)

Note :

  1. The application forms for Direct admission to Ph.D. programme for Monsoon Semester beginning July 2016 is closed on 29th January, 2016 and for winter semester begining January 2017, the application form for Direct admission to Ph.D. programme will be available from 1st September to 14th October, 2016 and last date for submitting the application forms will be 14th October, 2016.

  2. The lists of candidates invited to viva-voce and in respect of those finally selected for admission shall be displayed on the Notice-Boards of the Administrative Block and will also be available on JNU website (www.jnu.ac.in). Although intimation to this effect is sent to the candidates on their e-mail account and also available on JNU website as well as candidates online application form account, yet the candidates are advised to find out from Notice Board or JNU website (www.jnu.ac.in) or through their own sources whether their names appear in the lists and thereby make timely arrangements to appear for the viva-voce and for joining the programme, as the case may be. The University will not issue any paper intimation to the candidates. Candidates are advised to regularly check JNU website for updates.

  3. It will be in the interest of candidates selected for admission to report for registration and join the programme of study immediately after the commencement of registration process.
